Shape Up!

Kimberly Piazza brings her conceptually based drawings, shaped oil paintings, sculpture and collage together to create her first solo exhibit, Shape Up! Kimberly’s work addresses environmental issues and she frequently works with the theme of recycling, both via the recycling of materials that she uses to create her work, and through the “recycling” or abstraction of photographic images taken during her visits to junkyards. She works with a wide variety of media and has been developing different bodies of work along these lines. In all her work she attempts to give new life and purpose to discarded items. Through the use of form, design, color ~ and her sense of humor ~ she is a recycler, an inventor, transforming the debris she gathers from industry’s wasteland as a way of addressing the overarching theme of her creative endeavors which is humankind’s impact on the natural environment.

Adding to the diversity of this unusual show is garden installation created out of found and recycled objects by Alps View School students, Matt Silvera-Terras, Tim Osborne, Amanda Golay, Alia Davenport and Jack Werner. Kimberly worked with their teacher, Stefani Thomas, and the students have been inspired to a creative and exciting commitment to this project.
